Make the choice in 30 seconds

• Use the website when you already copied a public post link, received it in another app, download only occasionally, do not want to install anything, or use Safari, iPhone, iPad, or a browser without a listed package.
• Use the extension when you repeatedly download while browsing X and want a separate action on each supported media item, remembered defaults, and a browser-managed save flow without copying the post link.
• Check the current store card when browser choice matters. Chrome, Brave, Edge, desktop Firefox, and Firefox for Android do not necessarily receive the same feature set at the same time.

Choose the website for a copied link, occasional use, or broad device support

The website does not depend on an installed extension. Copy a complete public post URL, paste it into DownXVideo, and review the supported video, GIF, or post-image options that the parser actually returns for that post.

This is the simpler choice when another app gave you the link, when you download only occasionally, or when you are using Safari, iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows, or macOS. The browser can save the source file or open it in a player; playback alone does not mean a local file exists, so use the browser save action when needed.

Choose the extension for repeated use while browsing X

The extension removes the copy-and-paste step. On a supported X/Twitter page, it places an independent action on each recognized media item. The current Chrome package covers supported videos, GIFs that X delivers as MP4, and post images; it can remember the quality rule, filename format, button visibility, and save-location behavior on the current device.

For video quality, you can use the highest available source, cap the choice at 1080p or 720p, or ask each time. The extension does not upscale a post or create a resolution that X did not provide. Desktop save modes are the browser default, a custom subfolder inside Downloads, or a save picker for every file.

The Extension page shows the current store paths for Chrome, Brave, Edge, and Firefox. Read the actual store card before installing: another browser package can have an older version, a different media set, or a native mobile save flow.

Compare permissions and data paths, not only the number of clicks

The current Chromium build uses activeTab, downloads, and storage, supported X/Twitter page access, and exact X hosts used for public parsing. It does not request cookie, all-sites, webRequest, identity, or notification permission. Normal preferences stay in local browser storage.

Normal extension parsing sends cookie-free public requests directly from the browser to X. Chrome and Edge can also locally use limited media information already loaded for a playable item on the current page when public parsing fails. That fallback remains in page memory for up to ten minutes, is not sent to DownXVideo, and does not read cookies or authentication tokens.

A permission prompt describes what a browser API can allow; it is not a substitute for checking why the permission is needed. Compare the store prompt with the extension privacy disclosure before installation.

The extension is a shorter workflow, not an access workaround

The website and extension both process supported media from one public post chosen by the user. Neither method provides account-wide collection, a timeline-wide Download all action, live-stream capture, stream merging, or a private-media bypass.

A video visible while you are signed in can still be outside the supported public-post path. The extension does not authenticate as you, read X cookies, access direct messages, or turn a private, deleted, restricted, or paywalled post into public media.

• Read the current store description instead of assuming Chrome, Edge, Brave, desktop Firefox, and Firefox for Android have identical versions.
